My wife and i are life long fans of Mark and to see him in his home town was fantastic. A great mix from his old and new music had the crowed screaming for more. At one point he couldn't start the next song for the crowed clapping, he didn't drop a note all night and sent shivers down my spine with his fantastic guitar skills. The only complaint i had that he only did one night at Newcastle because he could have filled the hall over and over. john

Fantastic, amazing - these are just a few words I can use to describe this show. MK back in his hometown and what a performance. Right from the first chords of Why Aye Man, right down to Wild Theme. Knopfler really enjoyed himself on stage tonight as did the rest of the band. I was 4 rows from the front with a perfect view of Knopfler's guitar finger picking style. I've heard people say that Walk of Life is dull and boring - far from it. This was fresh tonight and very groovy. Sailing to Philadelphia was beautiful as was Romeo and Juliet. Now I have to admit, that I was starting to get a little tired on Sultans but after tonight, how wrong I was. This was purely amazing and had everyone grooving. Even my fiancee, who isn't a real rock fan admited that Sultans was fantastic - says it all in my book. Bonaparte was another I was starting to tire of but tonight it was really happening. A surprise for the night was All that Matters - fantastic live and Matt on accordian and Richard on lap steel were awesome!! Boom, like that is a great new song and will be played for years to come I feel. As for MK and slide guitar on Donegan's Gone, well someone has mentioned that this needs addressed and I agree. MK can truly play slide guitar. Telegraph Road was the usual high quality and I really liked this Brothers in Arms, especially with Matt on accordian. MK sang during So Far Away - Here I am again in this good old town with a huge smile on his face. The night finished with Matt superb on Mist COvered Mountains and Wild Theme that is always special to us geordies. Only disappointment was that there was no Shangri La :-( In all though, I thought MK was class in 2001 but this performance was so much better and truly proves that MK IS still the man and in a league of his own.
