Critique du concert de Paris. Je n'avais pas vu Knopfler depuis 1991 , c'est dire si j'etais impatient !! Et bien ce ne fut pas triste et pas pour de bonnes raisons . Pourtant ça commençait pas mal : Cannibal assez rock pour lancer le concert et puis ç'est partie en live , un whye man qui ne dure pas , un solo loupé , mark cherche sur son manche quoi faire , un solo mais non il se ravise, incapable d'improvisé un solo lyrique et mélodique comme je les aime depuis 25 ans , et puis il faut bien que le repertoire solo de knopfler n'est pas fait pour Bercy , un coup de violon , un coup de flute , un coup de flute ... un coup de violon ça fait leger pour enflammer un public de 15000 personnes , la sono metallique à souhait n'etait pas de son coté non plus , un mark knopfler peu concerné , bougon , et puis un romeo and juliette bien moins bon qu'a la grande epoque , et puis le drame : un solo de sultan of swing mal amené et le solo en lui meme en sera très moyen . L'ennui a souvent pointé , rare furent les solos , une set list adapté pour les pubs et encore . Ce concert etait moyen très moyen . cyrill

Brillant ! Plus péchu que la veille à Nantes où l'ami Markou n'a pas tout donner je pense...Mais là, il s'est bien laché, à l'image de Postcard from paraguay, dont il nous a fait le plaisir de ponctuer 2 fois d'un petit Paragua-iiiiiiiiiiiii ainsi qu'un petit cri de paraguayen digne de ce nom... Une terrible version de Marbletown et de Hillfarmer blues, mais surtout une version de Brothers in Arms magnifique !!! Un solo comme on en a pas entendu depuis un moment !!!! En bref, un public super, un groupe très en forme, un markou au top, le paradis quoi...vivement la prochaine tournée !! Vive Markou, vive Guy !!

Great show, with a fabulous setlist! Cannibals: I was very surprised as I expected "Why Aye Man", which came second. Why Aye Man: very powerful, I really dig that one! What It Is: simply brilliant! Sailing To Philadelphia: a magical song. True Love Will Never Fade: what a version! For me, the first highlight of the show. The Fish And The Bird: nice flute intro (it took me a while to recognize the song, I first thought it was "Scaffolder's wife" because of the flute) Hill Farmer's Blues: I really didn't think they'd play that one...moreover with an extended outro. Romeo And Juliet: same version as on "Realroadrunning", with piano intro. Sultans Of Swing: the crowd really went mad! A classic! Marbletown: interesting version, with the full band. Nice to hear stuff from "Ragpicker's Dream". Daddy's Gone To Knoxville: I was sure they'd play that one, because of the presence of the fiddler on this tour. Gorgeous! One of my favourites! Postcards From Paraguay: terrific! The flute adds something very special. Speedway At Nazareth: what a powerful outro, full of visual effects! Telegraph Road: slightly reworked version, with flute intro and semi-acoustic treatment up to the piano interlude. Brothers In Arms: first encore, with no thunder intro. Still as beautiful. Our Shangri-La: nice visual effects for a very beautiful song. So Far Away: yes, they played it! I'm a happy man because it is one of my favourites. Going Home: nice to hear the full band version instead of the usual acoustic "Wild theme". Just one thing: I would have been nice to hear "Punish the monkey", but nevermind, it was a great show, in my view even better the 2005 tour.

What to say ? Expectations were high and they were met. First, Bercy was packed with people from every possible generation (I even came with my pregnant wife ;-) ). There were sitting places everywhere but it didn't spoil the quality. I feared that at the begining but no. The stage was really nice with a huge dobro waiting to go down. At 8pm, there was an opening part that last 1/2 hour. It was OK and was not too long. Finally, in a really nice atmosphere, Mark and the guys appeared at 8:45am for a concert that will end 2 hours later. It started with Cannibals : very powerful, giving a great atmosphere in the crowd. Then, Wye Aye Man : also very powerful (the opener of the last Shangri La tour) And a great What it is From that point, I'm not sure of the order but it should be like that : Sailing to Philadelphia Marbletown The fish and the bird Hill Farmer Blues True love will never fade Daddy's gone to Knoxville Postcard from Paraguay Romeo and Juliet Sultans of Swing Speedway to Nazareth Telegraph Road ... it stopped here for a few minuts... (usual encores) Brothers in Arms Shangri La So far away Going home (beautiful when the hall is lit up) All songs were a highlight. People reacted better on Romeo and Juliet and on the other DS songs but everyone was so quiet in listening, like if we all wanted to catch every possible notes. All in All, it was a really brilliant concert. Mark has the ability to fill up a venue like Bercy with hardly no publicity and I think it is much better like that. Difficult to say which was the best song. SOS and TR, even if they've been played hundreds of time are still incredible. Hill Farmer Blues is very powerful. So is Speedway to Nazareth. Postcard to Paraguay has a catchy tune. Going Home is a great ending. I just hope that they would come back after that song but they never do. Oh well... Thanks to Mark and all the other musicians, around 17,000 people spent and unbelievable evening. Sound and lighting were amazing contrary to what was said about the first shows. This was my only concert on that tour but I wish I could see 2 or 3 more. Ah yes, before I forget, I have filmed most of the concert. Quality is perfect and I plan to upload it on youtube very soon. So...
