It was my first concert of the "shangri-la"-Tour and the 9th time to see Mark live on stage since 1992. It´s a new experience to see Mark with glasses. But he´s in great condition and all members of the band are brilliant musicians. I was sitting in the first row an so the view on stage and the sound-quality were perfekt. In couldn´t have been better. It was an evening never to forget!

Hello! Just let me say this first: THIS WAS THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE OF MARK & HIS FANTASTIC BAND SINCE THE MEMORABLE CONCERT IN 1996 AT THE "ALTE OPER" IN FRANKFURT (everyone who was there knows what I am talking about ...)!! I was very excited to see Mark again (last show I'd seen was at the "Globen" in Stockholm back in 2001)! Sitting 1st row, I couldn't believe that the tone was so fantastic - and believe me: it was good from the first tone Mark played!! Regardless of the fact that Mark didn't play any of my favourite songs from the "shangri la" album (no "back to tupelo", "everybody pays", "the trawlerman's song" or "our shangri la") it was a good mix of new songs (MK-albums) and of the all time classics from the Dire Straits era (but I'm still starving to death to hear "tunnel of love")!! Best songs this night: "boom like that" (very nice solo-part of MK; differently from the album); "romeo & juliet (nice as ever!); "sultans of swing" (couldn't believe that it would be that good!!); "what it is" (with an extended guitar-part!) "speedway at nazareth" & of cause "telegraph road" (Best guitar work on both songs of MK ever! Also great piano from Matt Rollings on "telegraph road" - it sounded exactly like on "love over gold"! And last but not least: Danny Cummings at his BEST on both songs!). I'm now looking forward to see Mark, Guy, Richard, Glenn, Matt and Danny again in Hannover, Hamburg and Cologne ... maybe with some new songs on the setlist!! ;-) See ya! Tobias.

Waaahnsinn!!!! Wir saßen in der ersten Reihe,direkt auf Höhe von Richard Bennet. Mark war so super drauf,die Soli's perfekt aber nie langweilig. Bei 'Speedway' dachten wir,ein Soundgewitter wäre über uns hinweg gezogen.Guy Fletcher war auch super drauf,Ihm haben wir den 'Autogramm-Treff'zu verdanken,da er wertvolle Tipps zu Soundcheck-Zeiten per E-Mail gegeben hat.Danke dafür,wir haben Mark endlich nach all den Jahren(Fan seit 81)persönlich getroffen und ein Autogramm ergattert.Er war sehr nett und nahm sich für alle Zeit.Mit 'Thank you,you nice people',war er dann auch schon wieder weg. Werde diesen Sonntag nicht so schnell vergessen.Hoffen alle auf eine Live-DVD mit der ganzen Show!!!!

GREAT show! Mark seemed to be very relaxed. When he arrived at the venue, a couple of fans including me waited for him to get some autographs. Although Mark was short on time (3 minutes before soundcheck), he signed our CD covers from inside his car. The show itself started punctually at 8:00pm and ended at about 10:15pm. We had seats in the first row next to the stage - fantastic! All impressions from the tour described before (concerning quality and versioning of all songs) reflecting exactly the same experiences I had. Finally just one little story: Standing ovations at the entire encore. Last song 'Going Home'. Some fans from the first few rows went to the stage. Some security people tried to turn the fans away. Mark used his arms and said (without mic) "Go away, get off!!!" I was astonished, that he sends his fans back to their seats, but his words are directed to the security guys... Finally about 30 fans are standing next to the stage and listened when Mark played his final song. I made a few pictures with my digicam. Ce concert fut génial J'attendais depuis 4 ans de le voir depuis le dernier concert de Mark à Cologne. Par diverses mésaventures je suis arrivé avec 1 min de retard au concert, j'ai loupé l'intro de Why Aye Man. Il faut dire qu'ils étaient ponctuels, le concert a débuté à 20 h pétantes. J'étais tellement pressé que j'en oublié mon appareil photo dans le coffre et dire que les 3/4 des gens prenaient des photos !!! Dégouté! Bref, j'étais placé une distance respectable, à environ 50 m de la scène. Retour sur le concert, Why Aye Man, qui était un réel plaisir à réetendre car çà faisait un bail que je n'avais pas écouté ce morceau. Et cela passait très bien là bas en Allemagne avec les Deutsch Mark et les Fraulein ! Bon début! Puis Walk Of Life, qui malgré mon overdose m'a paru dans une version très fraiche et légère avec quelques impros de Mark vers la fin, sympa. Ensuite What It Is, superbe et Sailing To Philadelphia toujours aussi magnifique. Ils enchainent avec Romeo & Juliet, nouvelle intro, çà change un peu et toujours la réflexion de la lumière sur la National, c'est beau, c'est émouvant. Le "Thaannnkkk Yoouuu" habituel puis Sultans Of Swing version 1978 en quatuor, çà me donne des frissons dans le dos ! Vient alors la partie tranquille du concert où le groupe enchaine Done With Bonaparte (une sensation de trop entendu aussi), Song For Sonny Liston (en trio juste Mark, Danny Cummings et Glenn Worf) qui sonne bien mieux que sur l'album, Donegan's Gone (j'adore quand Mark joue avec le bottleneck, çà sonne blues, c'est génial) et Rüdiger qui m'a un peu déçu car très proche de la version studio. La suite çà déménage : Boom Like That dans une version de feu, Speedway At Nazareth, encore plus endiablé qu'en 2001 et Telegraph Road , là j'avais les larmes aux yeux. Le pire c'est que je suis venue avec amie qui a pris la place de quelqu'un qui s'est désisté et pour elle c'était la grosse surprise, prévenue à peine la veille, elle en croyait pas ses yeux, ni ses oreilles... une femme heureuse! Ensuite les encores : Brothers In Arms qui démarre sans intro, idem pour Money For Nothing et So Far Away. Un agréable moment avec ce morceau joué par Matt Rollings à l'accodéon issu de la bande originale de Local Hero, The Mist Covered Mountains. Puis dernier instant émouvant, Wild Theme avec Mark et Guy Fletcher. Le dernier son qui sort de la guitare de Mark me fait penser que le prochain concert ne sera pas avant longtemps... Encore plein de sons et d'images reviennent dans ma tête...

Hallo Leute! So lange gewartet: Mark Knopfler kommt und schon ist er wieder weg! Es war eine perfekte musikalische Lichtshow. Am besten fand ich ´Telegraph Road´und ´Song For Sonny Liston´. Etwas mehr Power und Feeling hätte ich mir bei ´Way Aye Man´und ´Brothers in Arms´gewünscht. Anstatt ´Walk Of Life´und ´So far Away´-das ist er sowieso immer ein wenig- hätte er mehr Shangri-La in seine Shangri-La-Tour einbringen können. Ein besserer Drummer und ein weniger süßer Guy Fletcher wären auch recht gewesen, aber das ist nur meine Meinung. Freut Euch auf eine Super Show mit einem fantastischen Musiker mit seiner wunderbaren Stimme und perfekten Solos. Ich freue mich mit, denn ich sehe ihn in Frankfurt und Köln wieder. Mark Knopfler war gut und locker drauf und genoss seinen deutschen Tee. Und wir alle waren mit ihm, brav, lieb und gesittet auf unseren Stühlen. Aber dann... Thank you very much Mark Knopfler - I love you - Bye, Bye!
