Mark Knopfer went on at about 8:48 and played until 10:57. The show looked like it was filled to capacity. A beautiful night bay area weather accentuated the top notch performance. The audience was sitting for the most part, making it difficult to stand up and dance without being asked to sit down. Instead it seemed everyone was listening intently to each note being played.
I had never been a big fan of Sonny Liston on the album but after hearing it live for the first time tonight, it was magnificent. I now understand why people have been raving about it in other reviews. I did notice that they shortened the sit down part of the show however, there was no Donegans Gone or All that Matters, maybe it was to make way for the Shangri-La encore. For over two hours the band grooved through their repertoire of old and new material.
I took 5 friends to the show who weren't very familiar with Mark Knopfler's music. I was concerned how the music would go over with them but everyone left raving about how great the show was with a big grin on their face.
