The band showed up at 9:15 PM. And from then on it was like being under the effect of drugs. Taking their positions on the stage and without much ado they started rocking the house with Why Aye Man. By now the place was full and everybody, including me, was shouting and cheering at the top of their lungs. Mark had to prolong the intro for quite a while and wait for the crowd to calm down. And when we did those first notes of 'We had no way of stayin' afloat' came on. I could feel my heart at the back of my throat. Indeed he is still that fascinating voice from decades ago. Mark performed flawlessly and I would've given just about anything to see him play all night. I remember my right ear drum vibrating to a dangerous level. Mark did his usual "Everybody alright? Side? That side? Back? Front?" on Walk Of Life. The response from the crowd went up a notch in decibels. Some fans began shouting "BOOM LIKE THAT" and Mark took off his ear plug and said, 'Yeah, we'll get there. We'll get there.' More cheering. What It Is came on without a warning. The band played it fantastically and Mark rendered the vocals a little differently and that's what added to its beauty. Sailing To Philadelphia was of course sung by Mark solely. I literally shivered when he first sang the chorus. I felt it up my spine. The Trawelerman's Song started on a very soft note and quickly picked pace. After the song the crowd began requesting for Boom Like That, Sultans Of Swing and Money For Nothing. Mark took off his ear plug again and said "Sorry, I can't hear you but we do have those numbers lined up for you". And then came out the National Steel and with it of course Romeo & Juliet. Seeing it in Mark's hands was the most beautiful sight I have ever witnessed. Mark did his trademark finger snapping and the crowd just went wild. And then came the song I have always dreamed of seeing live - Sultans Of Swing. Needless to say the solo on this one was heavenly, done on the red Strat. My heart was thumping and I could've died happy that night. I have never felt so passionately about any solo. Watching it live is just another experience. For Song For Sonny Liston Mark sat down and was visibly sweating. It was played on a Gibson and not an acoustic. A refreshing change from the Shangri-La promo tour performances. I enjoyed this track tremendously and I remembered what James once said about its music. Mark wants the lyrics to stand out. Indeed. Donegan's Gone was performed with both Mark and Richard sitting down. It began with something to this effect. Mark: Hello, how are you, Richard? Richard: I'm fine. Thank you. What about you? Mark: Fine, thank you. This song totally rocked. I didn't think too much of it being on the setlist initially but I was proved wrong. Mark sang so well I wish I had somehow shot it on video. Gibson again for Baloney Again. Different start. Beautiful ending. We were the only ones who sang with Mark and he looked down at us and flashed a big smile. Speedway At Nazareth was painfully exciting particularly the solo. The fans around us began asking us over and over again what the song was called and if it was Mark's song or just a cover song After the song the crowd asked for Boom Like That again to which Mark's reply was "Alright, here's one of the requests, from our latest album, Shangri-La". All of the 9,000 fans sang to this one and especially when Mark hit the chorus it was the crowd singing "Boom Like That" more than Mark. Telegraph Road and Brothers In Arms - nothing I can say about these two tracks can ever do them justice so I'm not even going to attempt. Then came Money For Nothing and the crowd just went insane. It was expected. For So Far Away Mark took off his ear plugs and kept looking down at us the whole time he was singing it. Of course the four of us were singing it with him and he kept nodding and smiling at us. Finally came the instrumentals. I was glad to hear it but sad the show was ending. While Matt played The Mist Covered Mountains on his accordion Mark sat next to the drum kit with his chin in his palm smiling the entire time. Last but not least Mark took the stage and played the Going Home on his red Strat. While he strummed the climax his face showed such emotion it was almost like he was talking to his guitar. Class.

The show was absolutely fabulous. Mark Knopfler is a true legend and I was mesmerised by his magical playing and voice. The solos on Sultans of Swing & Speedway at Nazareth were breath-taking. Why Aye Man was a great opener and Telegraph Road was the ace of Mark. I cried with Wild Theme and Brothers in Arms. What a Show! I will never forget that night. It was the best night of my life. We love you Mark!

This was my first time in Dubai. After 7 hours on a plane from Frankfurt via Doha. We had brilliant weather: 26 degrees, sunny, light wind. The city is just amazing, so many fantastic sights to see (Burj al Arab, The Palm, The World, Burj Dubai), so many projects to come in the near future (150 more skycrapers are build right now). MK and band came onstage just a few minutes after 9pm. Show was open air, standing infront of stage and seating behind. About 7000 people. MK played very well, it was just fantastic, although he had some trouble with his ear-monitors. His fingerwork is just perfect, Sultans of swing was very fast and unbelievable. My other favourites were BLT (played differently than during promo) and Speedway. The encores were very nice, Matt played a very good solo on his accordion. Guy perfect as ever and all the band just great. The show lasted for 2hrs 20 min. All in all it was a night I'll remember. Cheers, Martina (Germany)
